| Course Description |
We will dive into how the US government works, both in the past and currently, by looking at the constitution and the roles and responsibilities of the three branches of our federal government. There will be a heavy focus on the amendments and important supreme court cases that affect how the government functions as well as our daily lives. We will also look at state and local governments and discuss our roles as citizens and how we can be involved in shaping the decisions of our government. We will be reading lots of papers from the founding fathers, including many of the federalist papers and a few other writings. TEXTBOOKS REQUIRED: Copies of the US Constitution, Federalist Papers, and the Articles of Confederation HS Credit: 1 Estimated Student Time: 1.5 hour class; 1-2 hours of homework per week for two semesters. |
